So, I have had acne since I was about 14 years old. It sucks, and everyone tells me, “oh, as you get older, it will go away”. But for me, it seems that the older I get, the worse my acne becomes. I started with just a normal mild amount of acne with occasional bad break outs, but ever since I had a baby, it just seems to get worse every day. I finally talked to my dermatologist about Acutane, (there are very strong and serious side affects, and it should only be used as a last resort). We both agreed that my acne had become severe enough (and that’s putting it lightly), and I was not seeing improvement with anything else I was using, (in fact, it kept getting worse).
I have only been on it for two days thus far, so I’m not feeling any side affects, but I’ve been told It’s a pretty bumpy ride. So I will try to post weekly or monthly updates pertaining to progress and intensity of side affects, to maybe answere some questions or help other people who are taking it or are considering taking it, and wondering if it’s worth it, (I hear it is definitely worth it)!
My dermatologist told me that there is a good chance I will break out pretty bad the first month or two which is known as “the purge” which is basically all of your underlying acne being forced to the surface (…yay…). I went through a similar process while using a retinoid on my skin, so I’m hoping my purge isn’t too terrible and hideous. So the first couple updates may not involve any improvement, but let’s wait and see 🙂
