Recreating My Mom’s Hair & Makeup | 80’s Tutorial *EASY*

I saw a video on Youtube from Patrick Starrr where he recreated his mother’s hair and makeup from a photo of her when she was younger. I thought it would make a funny homemade Mother’s Day gift for my mom, (she would have probably preferred a normal gift instead), but hopefully she enjoys my sad effort to be creative and recreate her glamor shots from the 80s.
The 80s makeup, (my mom’s version), was very simple and easy.
I am also unnaturally amused and happy that my mom contoured before contouring was popular. Mamma was trendy af 😉
This look involves a lot of black eyeliner, lots of blush, and my body weight in hairspray.
Happy Late Mother’s Day, Mom! I’ll still get you the yarn you wanted 😉

My mom’s skin looks very natural in her pictures.  I’ve looked at other makeup photos from the 1980s and it looks like they did not use full coverage foundations or setting powders like we do now. So, I applied a light layer of foundation and some concealer under my eyes.

I very rarely see any contouring or highlighting in pictures from the 1980s.  The only time I see contouring or highlighting is in old magazine photos or on models from that time. I think it is really cool that my mom was contouring regularly way before it became a makeup trend.

Her eye makeup was fairly simple but consisted of heavy black eye liner.  I very rarely wear any liner and when I do it is usually just winged liquid liner on my eyelids.  It was a lot of fun to try out a different way to use eye liner and I actually like how it made my eyes look bigger!  Hey eyebrows and lip lining was very simple so I just kept with the natural shape of my lips and tried not to define my eyebrow arch to make them more natural like my mom’s.

The hair was a whole different story.  It was brutal and my hair felt weird and it was just an entire mess!  Watch it to see how it turned out!
